New year, New Beginnings: What Our New Blog Will Do

new-year-mardibooks

Firstly, I’d like to wish all of the Mardibook community a happy New Year. Many of you will not recognise my name, as I am a new addition to the Mardibook family, to quote T.S. Eliot, “For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.” I started in September, and have been doing some editing of a manuscript which we hope will be published sometime during spring.

I must say, when I first started editing the book, I was nervous. After all, what qualifies me to comment on other people’s writing? However, the longer I spend in the process, the more at home I feel annotating away; like a duck to water you could say. I would urge any of our current authors to get involved with editing.

Firstly, you get an insight in to how other people structure their writing, how they plan their piece and how they execute their writing. Secondly, it gives you a chance to practice your proof reading skills. You get the opportunity to look at common errors other writers make, and to learn from those when writing your own manuscripts. Thirdly, you get to do what you love (reading), whilst helping other people; what more could you want!

This blog will focus on three main concepts: Write, Publish, Connect.

Over the course of the next year, I will be creating weekly posts centring on these ideas, giving you information on: events going on in the literary world, how to write certain styles of text, a view from the editor’s desk, promotion of our Mardibook writers and lots more.

Throughout the year, we will be synchronising our social media (Twitter, Facebook and Mardiblog) with common themes to help promote a variety of different genres. To give you an idea of what these themes might be, for January we are looking at The New You/Rebirth/Adventure, February will focus on ‘From Peace to Passion, and in March it’s all about the ladies with ‘Who run the world, Girls!’

We also want as many of you as possible to get involved! For those of you with experience in writing, or editing for that matter, we want you to help your fellow writer’s, giving them your top tips to create that perfect piece!

New members are not the only thing that’s new about Mardibook this year, we are launching a new website in January which will branch out into two separate sites: one focusing on publishing and another will focus on the promotion and of our books and writers.

All the best for 2016 from Mardibooks.
