Venue: Côte Brasserie in aid of the Crescent Charity.
The event was organised by Mardi writers, Patricia Horwood and Claire Blanchard; and compered by Belinda Hunt.
The evening involved several writers and poets sharing their own work with like-minded souls.
We heard first from Liam ‘Farmer’ Malone who shared with us some pithy poetry on life and death. The theme continued with some quizzical ditties from Robert Paterson before moving to prose reading from some of our debut novelists: Clairey Blanchard whose novel ‘A Perfect Place of Secrets’ is due for release July 2015; and Sue Nicholls’ thriller ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’ also out this Summer.
Published writer Xarina Akhtar entertained us with her short story: ‘A Life In Song.’ Katie Barron intrigued us with her comedy monologue ‘The Mother’ from her collection ‘Adventures in Toryland.’
Mike O’Brien, author of War on Wasps, shared a section of his gripping terrorism novel with us, leaving us on the edge if our seats.
The evening was rounded off with Patricia Horwood’s new poem entitled ‘The Tattoo,’ reminiscent of Edward Thomas’ ‘Rain’ and a reading from her recently published novel ‘A Flock Of Colours.’
It only remained for Belinda Hunt to thank all of our contributors for a lively and entertaining evening.
Net proceeds from the evening are going to the Crescent, a charity which dedicates it’s time to provide support and care both by and for people living with HIV, their partners, families and friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading my excerpt at the event on Thursday. It made me feel as though it’s going to be alright, after years of work. I’m so grateful to Belinda for the help she has given me. It makes me glad to offer my own skills to novice writers in the Mardi stable.Work begins soon on the sequel. I hope it won’t take another five years.
